Nintendo Switch Sales Surpass 15 Million Units in North America; Best-Selling Console for 10 Months in a Row

Nintendo of America has announced via a press release that the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite systems combined have sold over 15 million units in North America alone. The Nintendo Switch was originally released in March of 2017 and the new Lite systems were recently released back in September.

In a statement from Nintendo of America president, Doug Bowser, he mentions just how diverse the library of games is on the hybrid system:

“As we enter our third holiday season, Nintendo Switch is creating smiles and enjoying broad appeal, with more than 15 million consumers across North America playing their favorite games whenever and wherever they like. And this holiday, we are bringing Nintendo Switch owners even more fresh and unique entertainment experiences, like Ring Fit AdventureLuigi’s Mansion 3Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, and Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games: Tokyo 2020, adding to the system’s large and diverse library of games.”

Nintendo also mentioned that 14 Nintendo Switch titles have now sold over one million units such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

To compare with other Nintendo systems, the Nintendo Wii U sold 13.56 million units worldwide and the Nintendo Wii sold just over 100 million units. After only two and half years or so, the Switch in North America has already outsold the total worldwide sales of the Wii U.
