Actually setting up splitscreen multiplayer is pretty tricky. The first thing you need to do is turn on the second controller. Then, in the top right of the screen you’ll see the ‘Press X/A to join the game’ message. Do what the game tells you.
Then, the second player will be prompted to set up/sign into an Activision account. You have to do this, otherwise, you simply won’t be able to play splitscreen multiplayer in Modern Warfare.
