FIFA 20: How to Do a Drag Back

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

FIFA 20 is finally here and players are trying to work out all the new overpowered mechanics. So that you can get a little more space on the pitch, here’s everything you need to know about how to do a drag back in FIFA 20.

The drag back is a move that’s been popular in most FIFAs. However, since holding X/A to contain doesn’t work in the same way it used to, seeing defenders stay a metre or two away from the attacker with the ball, drag back’s are more useful than ever before.

Since defenders aren’t snapping at your feet quite as quickly if players use contain, you have a fraction more space to turn on a dime with the drag back.

Also, since manual defending is the focus this year, you’ll often see players dive in to nab the ball, and you can fool them easily and break into the space they’ve left by using the drag back.

Therefore, it’s important to know how to use it in the game. Below are the inputs you’ll need:

PlatformDrag Back Input
PS4Hold R1 and push right stick behind the player
Xbox OneHold RB and push right stick behind the player
SwitchHold R and push right stick behind the player

When you’re on the ball, you can quickly change direction by holding the right shoulder button and pushing the right stick in the opposite direction to where the player is running.

You can also pick the exit direction but pushing the right stick in another direction again, once pushed back the first time.

If you push it back and then forward, you can often fool the defender by almost faking the drag back.
