What Is Umbral Steel Used For?

In the first act of the game, Byleth will be given a special weapon called the Sword of the Creator. It’s a pretty powerful sword capable of both melee and ranged attacks.

However, just like other weapons, its durability goes down with use. The unfortunate thing about this particular weapon, though, is that repairing it is not quite as easy.

While other regular weapons require more common materials like Smithing Stones, you’ll need a material called Umbral Steel in order to repair the Creator’s Sword. If you let the durability run down completely, the sword’s power will be significantly reduced, making it a lot less useful.

How to Get Umbral Steel in Fire Emblem Three Houses

At the time of writing, we’ve only found one way of getting Umbral Steel.

On free days, whenever a red exclamation point shows up on your calendar, it means that there’s a battle available with the appearance of a rare monster. Defeating this monster and breaking its armor will give you a chance of getting Umbral Steel as a drop.

To break a monster’s armor, you need to crack all the yellow tiles it has, and this can be done easily with Combat Arts and Battalions, or just plain ol’ damage.

If you’re having trouble dealing with monster type enemies, check out our monsters guide for some tips and strategies on how to fight them effectively. Other than that, though, there doesn’t seem to be any way to get Umbral Steel as it’s not sold at any of the available shops in the game.

The good news is that you can always choose the Rest option on your free days to restore some durability to the sword, if you’re out of this rare material.

That’s all you need to know about how to get Umbral Steel in Fire Emblem Three Houses. Be sure to search for Twinfinite or check our Fire Emblem Three Houses guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.
