Gearbox and Borderlands 3 is teasing something about “celebrating togetherness” tomorrow at 7 A.M. pacific time. Whatever that is that’s going on tomorrow it’s not cross-play. Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox, took to Twitter today to confirm that much amid fan speculation presumably in a attempt to make sure fans aren’t let down that there won’t be a cross-play announcement tomorrow.
However, in the same post, Pitchford confirmed that Gearbox is committed to supporting cross-play for Borderlands 3 “as soon as practical after launch.” That’s a pretty vague statement to be sure, but it is still a public and verbal commitment to trying to get cross-play for Borderlands 3.
Some folks may be speculating that this thing tomorrow may be about cross play. Tomorrow’s thing is awesome, but *not* about cross-play. But, Good News: We are committed to supporting cross-play for Borderlands 3 with our partners as soon as practicable after launch. #talklater https://t.co/XtUzrBpySP

The devil of course is in the details. There’s no word as to what “as soon as practical after launch” actually means in terms of a date, and if cross-play means full cross-play including the PS4, or just the Xbox One and PC versions of the game which has been the case for some games until recently.
Still, this is still more information than most people probably expected to get at this point in time and it leaves the door wide open for speculation on what tomorrow’s annoucement will be since we know it won’t be cross-play.
Considering the tagline, I’ll guess something teamwork related or perhaps more details on the game’s social features such as item buying/selling between other players and shared dynamic quests.
