Penta Penguin was a secret character in the original Crash Team Racing over 20 years ago, and things haven’t changed one bit with the release of Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled. If you’re wondering whether the adorable scarf-wearing penguin has made his return in Nitro-Fueled, here’s what you need to know, including how to unlock Penta, its stats, and more.

Who Is Penta Penguin?

For those wondering exactly where this adorable little penguin just popped up from, he appeared in the manga Dansu! De Jump! Na Daibouken which was a comic based on Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back. In it, Crash teams up with Penta, as well as enemies from his past such as Ripper Roo and Dr. N. Gin to stop Cortex from taking over the world.

After that, as we mentioned above, Penta Penguin was then included in the original Crash Team Racing as a secret character that was unlocked via a cheat at the main menu screen. Penta then returns again in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled in a similar fashion, which we’ve outlined down below.

How to Unlock Penta Penguin in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled

To unlock Penta Penguin in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, enter the following code on the main menu screen:

• PS4: Hold L1+R1, Down, Right, Triangle, Down, Left, Triangle, Up
• Xbox One: Hold LB+RB, Down, Right, Y, Down, Left, Y, Up
• Nintendo Switch: Hold L+R, Down, Right, X, Down, Left, X, Up

Upon doing this, you should hear a little dinging noise indicating that you’ve successfully entered the cheat code. An icon also appears in the bottom-left corner of the screen, indicating you’ve unlocked this secret character.

To use the character, it’s now simply a case of heading to whatever game mode you want to use them in and heading to the character select screen. Penta will be unlocked just next to Pura, and you’ll be free to select him as you would any other character.

What Penta Penguin’s Stats Are in Nitro-Fueled

Sadly, while Penta Penguin’s stats in the original Crash Team Racing were maxed out in the PAL and Japanese versions, he’s been balanced out for his appearance in Nitro-Fueled. Instead, he has the same stats as the advanced kart racers, Tiny, and Dingodile. These are as follows:

• Speed: 7/7
• Acceleration: 3/7
• Turning: 2/7

Thanks to Penta’s small size, though, it makes it a lot easier to anticipate corners and nail your drifting and turbo boost compared to doing the same with the likes of Tiny and Dingodile who are significantly larger and take up more of the screen.
