Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain Devs Warn About Possible Shortages in Japan Due to Popular Pre-Orders

Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain is just around the corner, and today D3 Publisher revealed that it might be hard to find at retail stores in Japan.

According to a notice published this morning on Twitter, the game is already sold out at some stores in the country due to the popularity of pre-orders. D3 also encourages users who want to be sure to get a copy to just gab the game digitally on the PlayStation Store.

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what kind of popularity we’re talking about here. This kind of notice normally either means that the game is selling really well, or that the initial shipment isn’t big (or a combination of the two).

We’ll likely know next Wednesday when Famitsu will provide its estimates of software sales for this week. Considering that the world certainly needs more quirky games that don’t take themselves too seriously like Earth Defense Force, I certainly hope that it does well.

If you’re unfamiliar with the game, you should watch the latest trailer and take a look at our extensive interview with Producer Nobuyuki Okajima, who talked in-depth about the game and its design philosophy.

Earth Defense Force: Iron Rain will release both in Japan and in the west on April 11, 2019, exclusively for PS4.
