Recommended Videos

The Division 2 is an RPG, and that means constantly upgrading your character’s abilities. You’ll quickly find yourself outmatched by the game’s more powerful enemies if you aren’t being diligent in maintaining this aspect of the game. Here’s how to get and equip new skills in Division 2 (skill unlocks).

Skills can be obtained from the Quartermaster at your Base of Operations (the White House). They are based around platforms with a number of variants. There are 8 skill platforms available in total: Pulse, Turret, Hive, Chem Launcher, Firefly, Seeker Mine, Drone, Shield.

How to Unlock Skills in Division 2

Skills unlocked by completing certain main missions. You basically have an option as to which you unlock; there’s no specific order. You’ll get an opportunity to unlock one of your choosing after a given mission.

Simply choose which skill you want to unlock from the Quartermaster and press X (PS4) / A (Xbox One) and then hold Square (PS4)/ X (Xbox One) to unlock it.

Once they are unlocked, you can find them in your inventory, where you can equip and modify your abilities. The first one you unlock as part of a main mission is auto-equipped to R1 (PS4) / RB (Xbox One) / E (PC).

It’s worth noting that upon unlocking a new platform, you can unlock skill variants to alter its functionality.

How to Unlock Skill Variants

To unlock variants you’ll need SHD tech, which is a currency you earn throughout the game. Every time you level up you’ll receive some, but there are other ways to gather it, too. This includes playing specific SHD Tech Missions and looting SHD Tech locations.

That’s all the information you should need about how to unlock skills in The Division 2. For more useful guides and tips on the game, be sure to check out our extensive wiki page.
