Senran Kagura 7EVEN

Senran Kagura Producer Is Struggling with Censorship and Expects Things to Get Worse

Last year, Senran Kagura Producer Kenichiro Takaki mentioned that issues tied to worldwide regulations were giving him trouble while working on the upcoming PS4 exclusive mainline game Senran Kagura 7even.

Today the Japanese website Inside Games published an interview recorded at Taipei Game Show, which paints a rather bleak picture.

Asked about the recent strict regulations imposed by Sony Interactive Entertainment in regards to sexy content, Takaki-san explained that it isn’t just limited to PlayStation. He has been expecting the trend to spread gradually regardless of platform and genre.

Yet, the tide came sooner than he thought. Due to that, he is worried about what he should do now.

In regards to the previously announced Senran Kagura 7Even for PS4, he believes that it’s probably impossible to release the game in the form that he originally imagined. It’s time to consider whether to start over again.

Even releasing two different versions by target age (as suggested by an interviewer) would be very difficult, and Takaki-san doesn’t think it’s possible.

Shifting completely to PC instead of PS4 would also be challenging, Takaki-san feels. Since this is such a niche genre, it would be difficult to release only on PC. That being said, if he can, he’ll try.

While there are things that are still allowed among the elements included in Senran Kagura games, there are many that surely won’t be possible going forward. Regulations will likely become increasingly strict, and since there is no clear information on how far he can go, Takaki-san is struggling a lot.

He believes that the attractive points of the Senran Kagura series aren’t just the sexy elements, but if those are cut, its charm is diminished. Takaki-san can still create interesting elements even without the sex appeal, but he hasn’t found an answer yet.

He concluded by mentioning that many are interested in the future of the series, including Senran Kagura 7Even. While now he’s struggling a bit, caught in the flow of the world, he believes that it’s going to be finished one day. He’ll be grateful if fans can wait patiently for that to happen.
