How to Start the MSQ (Soul Searching) in FFXIV Patch 4.5

It’s major patch day for FFXIV, which means there’s going to be some new story content for players to dive into. Here’s what you need to know to start the new MSQ Soul Searching and access the Ghimlyt Dark dungeon in Final Fantasy XIV patch 4.5.

Here’s a brief rundown of the player requirements for taking on the new quest:

  • Must have a combat class at level 70.
  • Must beat the MSQ Prelude in Violet.
  • Talk to Alisaie at the Rising Stones in Mor Dhona.

In short, this means that you need to be completely caught up with all released story content in FFXIV so far. If you’re new to the game, you can buy a story skip potion from the Mog Station.

However, you’ll still have to play through all the story content in the Stormblood expansion, and all the main quests released in subsequent patches before you can start this one.

For everyone else, simply head to the Scions’ headquarters at the Rising Stones in Mor Dhona (X:6.1 Y:5.8) and speak to Alisaie to start the MSQ, titled Soul Searching.

With the new MSQ in FFXIV patch 4.5, a new four-man story dungeon has also been added. Called the Ghimlyt Dark, you’ll have to progress through the MSQ in order to access the dungeon. However, do note that the item level requirement is set at 360.

If you’ve been doing your daily duty roulettes consistently, you should have enough Tomes of Mendacity to get some 360 gear at Rhalgr’s Reach.

Alternatively, if you’re trying to play catch-up, another good way to get higher level gear is by doing the Alphascape raids. Patch 4.5 will remove the weekly gear locks for Alphascape, making it much easier for players to farm Alphascape gear for levels.

That’s all you need to know about how to start the Soul Searching MSQ and access the Ghimlyt Dark Dungeon in FFXIV patch 4.5. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more FFXIV-related content.

FFXIV is also slated to receive its next major expansion this summer, titled Shadowbringers. Aside from more story to dive into and a new max level cap, it’s also looking very likely that the Viera race from FFXII will be added to the game. Before the expansion releases, players will also finally get to check out a new ‘limited’ Blue Mage job next week.

TLDR;

Question: How do you start the MSQ and access the Ghimlyt Dark dungeon in FFXIV patch 4.5?

Answer: If you’ve caught up with all story content, you can continue the MSQ by talking to Alisaie at the Rising Stones in Mor Dhona. The Ghimlyt Dark dungeon is part of the MSQ as well, and has an item level requirement of 360.
