The Nintendo Switch might only be a year old, but it seems like we might be getting a new variant next year. The Wall Street Journal has recently reported that Nintendo plans on releasing a new Switch unit sometime next year, possibly around the latter half of 2019.
Moreover, the outlet reported that the company is still debating over what new pieces to include along with any other hardware issues to tinker with. One of the many options Nintendo is said to be looking into is the screen. We could possibly see an upgrade like with those found in more recent smartphone LCDs. Using these screens would no doubt make the system “brighter, thinner, and more energy-efficient.”
That being said, the updated version is said to “likely share many features with the current version and be compatible with existing Switch game software.” Nintendo has yet to comment on the circulating report, so hold off on selling your Switch for now.
So far, the Nintendo Switch has been a massive success for the company, with sales exceeding 19 million units. With the recent launch of the Nintendo Switch Online Service, it seems like the gaming giant is working on more surprises for their fans.
