Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Beats Franchise Record For Best Launch Week Sales on Current-Gen

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is already setting records for Ubisoft, apparently, as the game has now topped the current record for best launch week sales, based on Ubisoft’s own internal estimate. It should be noted, however, that this is only for current-gen consoles, meaning PS4 and Xbox One.

Via a press release Ubisoft announced the news.Ubisoft senior vice president of sales and marketing Geoffroy Sardin commented “We are incredibly proud of what the team accomplished with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and humbled by the amazing reception from critics and players.”

Sardin continued, stating, “Based on the quality of the game and the very encouraging reactions from players, we expect Odyssey to be one of the top performing Assassin’s Creed games of all-time. Launch is just the start of this epic journey. We have robust content plans for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey that will keep players engaged and exploring the game’s beautiful and compelling world for a long time to come.”

Considering the strong player reception to Origins last year, it’s not entirely surprising that Odyssey is doing so well. We gave Assassin’s Creed Odyssey a  4.5/5 in our review, calling it one of the best entries in the franchise yet.

Ubisoft has some lengthy post-launch plans for the game as well. They hope to keep players engaged with Odyssey by providing a robust mix of free episodes and paid DLC. The paid content, included in the season pass, will involve fighting alongside the first wielder of the Hidden Blade and uncovering the secrets of the lost city of Atlantis. Season pass owners will also get access to Assassin’s Creed 3 Remastered, when it launches next year.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is now available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. For more on Odyssey, take a look at our opinion piece on why Alexios and Kassandra give the game some personality. You can also check out some neat tiny details you might have missed in the game.
