The Switch Version of Cave Story Will Be Getting its Original Game Graphics in Future Update

For the Cave Story purists.

Cave Story is officially available on the Nintendo Switch, and it’s been a blast to play through so far. However, purists and hardcore fans may have been a little disappointed to see that the game’s original graphics weren’t available in the Switch version. This version of the game only offers the new, remastered graphics, which look great in their own right.

That said, Nicalis wants to please those fans, and so they’ve announced that they’re currently working on bringing the original game graphics over to the Switch version. Here’s their announcement tweet:

There’s no word on when the patch will be arriving though.

Cave Story has players take control of a young boy who wakes up in a dark cave with no recollection of who he is and how he came to be in the cave. The game features platforming elements and shoot ’em up gameplay. It also features multiple endings for those who like some variety in their game stories.

The game is currently available on the Nintendo Switch, 3DS, and PC.
