Uzbekistan Bans 38 Video Games Over ‘Threatening Security’

Includes Grand Theft Auto and The Sims.

Uzbekistan has banned a substantial list of video games the government believes to be “distorting values” and “threatening stability.”

Recommended Videos

The BBC reports it is now illegal for citizens to import or distribute these games over concerns they are “used to propagate violence, pornography, threaten security and social and political stability.” The government says the ban is to further keep young people away from “destructive” influences.

The full list below, translated as “List of computer games not recommended for import, reproduction (production), sale, rental in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” includes a mix of violent, erotic, and horror video games. The list also contains misspellings, incomplete information, and some odd choices to censor, such as half of The Sims series and the still unannounced Left 4 Dead 3.
