The news comes via a post over on the publisher’s site, who has also published the likes of Payday 2 and Dead by Daylight. The post confirms that Psychonauts 2 is slated for a 2018 release, and will invest $8 million into the project’s marketing and distribution. It was also confirmed that the game would be coming to PC, and other platforms.

Starbreeze Publishing will recoup the entirety of its investments through “an initial share of 85% after distribution and platform fees and Fig crowdfunding revenue share.” Once the investment has been recouped, Starbreeze Publishing will then drop its revenue share down to 60%.

Despite this publishing deal, Psychonauts 2’s developer Double Fine Productions will remain the sole owner of the IP.

If you can’t wait until Psychonauts 2 in 2018, then you may be in luck. It was recently confirmed that Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin will be coming exclusively to PSVR later this month.
