BioWare Might Be Teasing Something for Today’s PlayStation Meeting

Will we see Mass Effect: Andromeda in action today?

BioWare, the studio behind the Mass Effect series, might have an announcement and/or new game footage to show later today at Sony’s PlayStation Meeting. A series of cryptic tweets from members of the BioWare team hinted as much yesterday.

It all started yesterday afternoon when Senior Director of Creative Development Alistair McNally mentioned that he was more than a little bit pumped for Sony’s event today. “Really, REALLY excited for the Sony PlayStation press conference tomorrow,” he tweeted. Some surprises are in store I expect.”

That’s pretty vague, and it could very well just mean McNally is excited to see all the new stuff from Sony, like the PS4 Slim and PlayStation Neo the console holder is expected to officially announce. It would perhaps be a little odd for someone to be that hyped for one console we’ve already seen and another we’ve heard about for months and already know the specs of, but most gamers would agree that new hardware unveilings by a major industry player is always at least a little exciting.

Yesterday evening, however, Mass Effect Creative Director Mac Walters added more fuel to the fire with his response to a fan tweet insinuating that something BioWare-related could be happening at the event. “I love your commitment to ambiguity and I wholeheartedly support it… But stay tuned. Just in case,” responded Walters.

Less than an hour later, Mass Effect Producer Michael Gamble also decided to get in on the ambiguous BioWare tweeting game too. “Oh, God. Tomorrow is 7th, isn’t it?” he rhetorically asked the Twittersphere.

Again, this could all just be one big coincidence in which three prominent members of the Mass Effect team are as excited as everyone else is to see Sony’s new goods this afternoon. Sony hasn’t let slip any hints about what exactly it will be showing, but it’s a safe bet we’ll be seeing Neo, the PS4 Slim, and PS VR, the latter of which is set to release next month. It’s probably also not unreasonable to expect some software to be shown off along with all that hardware, however, and it’s not a big leap from there to speculate that some of it will be from third parties.

If that’s the case, and if BioWare is one of the studios on the docket, there are a few possibilities for what it could be showing. Most obviously is Mass Effect: Andromeda, a game which has been conspicuously light on publicity despite a targeted Q1 2017 release window. Then there’s BioWare’s new IP, which publisher EA recently said would be unveiled “in the not too distant future.” Finally, there are those Mass Effect remasters that EA has said it is (somehow) simultaneously looking into and definitely not making.

You can watch whatever is or isn’t happening at today’s PlayStation Meeting at 3:00 p.m. EST right here on the official Sony stream. If you’re not able to watch live, keep an eye on Twinfinite for all the news as it breaks.
