Earlier this morning, Dead Island 2’s store page was removed from Steam.
A post on NeoGaf brought the news to our attention. When searched in Steam’s search engine, Dead Island 2 is not listed. However, Dead Island: Retro Revenge, the 16-bit spin off, is still available, as well as Dead Island, Dead Island: Definitive Edition, and Dead Island Riptide Definitive Edition. The next mainline entry in the series is due out sometime this year.
Recently, publisher Deep Silver, who just released Homefront: The Revolution and will soon release Mighty No.9, passed on the development of Dead Island 2 to Sumo Digital. Yager Development was terminated from the project sometime last year. Sumo Digital’s previous credits include work on Disney Infinity, LittleBigPlanet, and Forza. The studio is also hard at work on Microsoft’s new entry in the Crackdown series.
Dead Island 2 is still available for pre-order at other outlets, including Best Buy, Amazon, and GameStop, with a placeholder release date of 12/31/2016.
We’ve reached out to Deep Silver for further clarification, and we’ll update our post accordingly once we’ve gathered more information.
