How to Heal – Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

If you are looking to survive out in the vast wilderness of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild then you are going to need to know how to heal. Unlike other Zelda titles, Link can now cook and prepare food that can not only offer stat boosting effects like increased defense, but fill out some empty heart containers. Food comes in two varieties: raw and cooked, and it’s important to know the difference. If you eat an item raw, like an apple, you will only recover half of a heart container as opposed to cooking it, which could create a delish meal that restores two full heart containers.

Food is the primary way to restore your health in the game so it’s critical that you always have some meals prepared if you plan to go out adventuring. In order to cook more powerful healing spells, Link will need to find a cooking station (a metal bowl over a fire) and ignite the wood. Once this is done, go into your inventory and select the food items you want to use and then choose the hold option.

From here, have Link toss the food into the pan and eventually he will obtain a meal that can heal him. Whenever you are going into a dungeon or tricky monster camp always carry some prepared meals as it will save you time when you are in between battles. Eating your food raw should be a last priority in the game, so try and keep a few emergency snacks on hand just in case your bigger healing items run out.
