Major Nelson has announced via Twitter that Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty HD Edition and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater HD Edition, will both be hitting Xbox One backward compatibility today. As is typical of backward titles, you’ll be able to purchase the games via the Xbox Marketplace or use the Xbox 360 disc version, if you have it.
Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 are both critically acclaimed classics in Hideo Kojima’s premier series. The versions in question are the HD updates originally released in the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2012. The core gameplay mechanics and story remain entirely unchanged, but the HD versions do have updated graphics and play controls for modern consoles. If you’re unfamiliar with the games, here’s a description of each one from the Xbox Marketplace.
