Microsoft has announced the next entry in the Gears of War saga has gone gold prior to its launch next month. Gears of War 4, the first of the series by the newly formed Coalition studio, has now been released to manufacturing, meaning development on the game has been completed, also known as “Going Gold.”
The event was celebrated at the Microsoft Canada Excellence Centre in Vancouver, B.C, which was attended by the likes of head of Xbox Phil Spencer, and Rod Fergusson, the head of the Vancouver-based Coalition studio. “Ten years ago, Gears of War was the killer app that brought millions into the Xbox family,” Spencer stated. “It’s combination of innovative technology, unique gameplay, and trademark storytelling changed the game forever.”
“This has been a real homecoming for me,” Fergusson said. “Coming back to Xbox to lead a studio of talented people from around the world, all focused on Gears of War, and doing so in my home country of Canada in one of the best cities in the world for technology and entertainment has been a dream come true.” Fergusson is definitely no stranger to the Gears franchise, having worked as the executive producer at Epic Games for the first three entries, before Microsoft purchased the franchise and formed the Coalition studio.
Gears of War 4 launches on Oct. 11 for Xbox One and PC.
