The Game Awards 2015 revealed the first major DLC for The Tomb Raider Rises, titled “Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch“, which will be released early in 2016. Crystal Dynamics have since announced two more DLCs are on their way. The first to be released on December 29 is “Endurance Mode”, which is a new challenge mode that pits Lara against mother nature and other threats, both man and beast. This new challenge mode will determine who amongst us is the ultimate survivor, requiring players to collect and craft the things they need to endure the constant lethal threats to Lara’s life. Endurance Mode will also come with a new outfit and weapon.
The next DLC to be announced is titled “Cold Darkness Awakened”, which Microsoft describes as:
“A dormant weapons research base has been breached, unleashing a mysterious affliction into the Siberian wilds that transforms beasts and men into bloodthirsty, mindless killers. Lara must overcome increasingly dangerous waves of these infected predators while scrounging their equipment and crafting additional gear on the fly, in kill or be killed survival-combat.”
This description sounds like the DLC could potentially be another challenge mode. The DLC is slated with a vague 2016 release date. Like the other two DLCs, this one will also come with a new outfit and weapon.
Three additional DLC packs have been announced, each one with a new outfit, weapon and cards. Just like other outfits in the game, these new outfits will give Lara certain advantages during gameplay. These packs are titled, “The Prophet’s Legacy Pack”, “The Ancient Vanguard Pack”, and “The Wilderness Survivor Pack”.
While only the Endurance Mode DLC has been given a definite release date, this news finally reveals the kind of extra content we can expect to get in the future. The Baba Yaga DLC is one such example that should keep players entertained and keep us Tomb Raiding into the distant future.
