Destiny Taken King: How to Get a Sword

This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

Prior to the release of Destiny: The Taken King, one of the most discussed new additions to the game’s weapon arsenal was the sword heavy weapon. Now that you can finally play Taken King, many people are wondering, “How do I get a sword?” Well, we’re going to help you out with that because it’s not exactly a straightforward answer.

You see, in order to get a sword, you’ll need to complete a quest given to you by Eris Morn called “A Broken Will”.

However, for Eris to give you this quest, you must first complete the first portion of the Destiny: The Taken King story content up until you’ve finished the mission called “Regicide”.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to unlock patrol access on the Dreadnaught, which you do by completing the Cayde-6 quest called “Dread Patrol”.

After you’ve gotten the patrol beacons set up on the Dreadnaught and finished the mission, talk to Eris in the Tower to get the “A Broken Will” quest.

One you have it, you’ll need to return to the Dreadnaught in patrol mode to start farming some hadium flakes. You’ll need 25 of them to forge a sword, as well as 10 motes of light so start saving those up too if you don’t already have 10 of them in your inventory.

Additionally, depending on what elemental damage you choose for your sword, you’ll need either 25 spinmetal, 25 relic iron, or 25 helium filaments.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. the most difficult part of this quest is acquiring the 25 hadium flakes from the Dreadnaught.

The best way to acquire these is to farm them from chests around the Dreadnaught. Youtube user ThePwnstar4hire has compiled a video of a farming run that should get you those flakes fast. You can follow his run exactly or use his locations to develop your own pattern.

Once you’ve got all the materials you need, you can return to the Tower and claim your sword. Job well done.
