Yakuza Kiwami 2’s Latest Trailer Explores A ‘Forbidden Romance’

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

The latest trailer for Yakuza Kiwami 2 is basically the perfect advertisement for the Yakuza series if we’ve ever seen one, as it chronicles the Dragon of Dojima’s “forbidden” relationship with detective Kaoru Sayama, who’s originally ordered to take Kiryu into protective custody to study the Tojo Clan’s activities. The two form an uneasy alliance at first, but Kaoru ends up developing feelings for Kiryu as they spend time together.

You can watch bits and pieces of the burgeoning relationship develop in the trailer, and if you’ve never played Yakuza 2 before, you’re in for a treat as you watch the pair work together, and enjoy little dates around the city. It’s absolutely adorable. The trailer is quite sentimental as well, extolling how it feels when someone “cherishes” the real you. Kiryu is the yakuza with a heart of gold once more as he makes sure Kaoru knows he would never think any less of her, no matter what she ends up discovering about her past. There’s even a hint at a kiss at the end!

Yakuza Kiwami 2 is releasing August 28 for PlayStation 4, so make sure you check it out to start your collection if you’ve not yet ventured down that path.
