Are you excited for Cyberpunk 2077? You should be, but you should also temper that excitement if you’re a PC gamer. Odds are you will need to upgrade your hardware to play this game.
It is no secret that E3 was full of news regarding CD Projekt RED’s upcoming cyberpunk RPG. The game will be played from a first-person perspective (not unlike the seminal cyberpunk game franchise Deus Ex) and, judging by our hands-on preview, will provide a hybrid RPG/FPS game that doesn’t restrict players with classes. However, CD Projekt RED didn’t reveal any potential system requirements for the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 during E3. Sure, the game is a long way off, but it’s always nice to know what a game will need, so PC owners can prepare. Lucky for gamers, the company was more than happy to unveil the specs of the computers running the demo after the expo ended.
CD Projekt RED recently released the PC hardware specs on its official Discord server. The computer that ran the E3 demo used the following components:
- CPU – Intel i7-8700K – 3.70Ghz
- Motherboard – Asus ROG Strix Z370-I Gaming
- RAM – G.SKILL Ripjaws V, 2X16GB, 3000 Mhz, CL15
- Graphics Card – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
- SSD – Samsung 960 PRO 512 GB M.2 PCIe
- Power supply – Corsair SF600 600W
For those of you who aren’t computer-savvy, the demo computer used some of the latest (and beefiest) components on the market. The i7-8700K is one of the most powerful CPUs available, and the same can be said for the GTX 1080 Ti. As for the 32 GB of RAM, that much RAM is generally regarded as overkill. Most PC gaming sites recommend around 16 GB for modern games, but these sites openly recommend more for gamers who want to future-proof their computers.
Of course, we should take the demo computer’s specs with a grain of salt. Hardware is only half the equation; the other half is optimization. As developers work on their games, they figure out how to make the program run more effectively. Plus, the demo was likely running at max settings, which requires significantly more processing power than a game on low settings. Odds are Cyberpunk 2077 won’t require an Intel i7-8700, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, or 32 GB of ram, but gamers who currently own PCs with those components are almost guaranteed to run the game flawlessly.
With any luck, Cyberpunk 2077 will release in 2019. We should know more about the game’s system requirements closer to the release date.
