Steam Digital Gift Cards Take Away The Struggle of Gift-Giving

Painful choices and running around retailers are now in the past!
This article is over 7 years old and may contain outdated information

If you find yourself buying Steam titles as gifts very often, you’re no stranger to how difficult it may be if you have no idea what to buy. Someone might want PUBG, another may be drooling over a visual novel. But fret not — as holiday sales approach, you can now top up your friend’s Steam Wallet by purchasing a digital gift card.

The gift cards come in increasing values of $5, $10, $25, $50, and $100. You can purchase them with the normal Steam methods of payment, whether you choose credit or debit cards, PayPal, or Bitcoin.

Previously, Steam users could only add funds to their own Wallet and, in turn, give others physical gift cards bought from various retailers (GameStop, Best Buy, etc.). These only have denominations of $20, $50 and $100.

The gift cards come just in time for the Halloween Sale on Steam. It begins today and ends next Wednesday, Nov. 1. If you don’t find the games on discount worth gifting, there will be other opportunities: Black Friday Sale is to hit Steam later in November (Wednesday, 22 — Tuesday, 28), followed by the Winter Sale (Dec. 21 — Jan. 4, 2018).
