Song of Memories Will Retain its Content on PS4 and Switch but Ages Will Be Removed

Today British publisher Pqube announced that PureWish’s visual novel Song of Memories won’t have any content removed in the west on consoles compared to the Japanese version.

According to the publisher, this is true for both the PS4 and Switch versions of the game. The only difference between the two consoles will be in the release date (which has already been delayed for both to 2019) due to development issues with the Switch version, which will come later.

While content has remained unaltered, a couple of changes have been done in localization, with the removal of all references to the age of the protagonists, while the mention of “school” has been changed to “academy.”

This has been done to “placate age rating boards” and according to PQube  “has nothing to do with recent platform holder changes.”

The fact that Song of Memory’s content has passed unscathed through the scrutiny of the western arm of Sony Interactive Entertainment is actually rather interesting. Song of Memory doesn’t include adult content, but it certainly comes with some titillating scenes.

At the moment, a firm release date has not been announced for either PS4 or Nintendo Switch. If you don’t want to wait, you can already purchase the English version on PC via Steam.
