There can be only one monster slaying game. After spending several weeks at the top of the UK weekly sales charts, Monster Hunter: World has been dethroned by Shadow of the Colossus, which took the top spot after its first week of sales.
According to Chart-Track, the original Shadow of the Colossus also came in at number one back in 2006, but last week’s PlayStation 4 remake eclipsed its predecessor’s sales by 73%. This does not include digital sales data, so the numbers could be slightly higher.
It’s unsurprising considering the PlayStation 4 has a wider market penetration than the PlayStation 2, but it’s still great to see Shadow of the Colossus make such a big splash (again).
Of course, Shadow of the Colossus’ success on the UK charts means the previous number one selling game – Monster Hunter: World – has been knocked down a few pegs. Monster Hunter: World now sits at number three. EA Sports UFC 3, which launched a little over a week ago, still sits at number two.
A mix of old and new titles round out the rest of the UK’s top selling games. FIFA 18 and Grand Theft Auto V maintained their number four and five placements respectively, while two Nintendo games – Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Mario Odyssey – managed to also hold onto their number seven and number eight spots as well.
Meanwhile, two other games had some reversal of fortune. Call of Duty: WW II dropped from number three to number six, while Assassin’s Creed Origins managed to leap from number 15 to number nine. A retailer promotion helped The Evil Within 2 jump back onto the charts at the number 10 spot to round out the week’s top 10. You can check out the numbered list below.
