Today Sega announced that the latest Sakura Wars game Sakura Revolution: Blooming Maidens will be shutting down soon.
The game’s service will end on June 30, less than seven months after its release on December 15, 2020.
Sega and developer Delightworks attempted to bring the Sakura Wars franchise to mobile platforms following the launch of the new PS4 game at the end of 2019 in Japan and in the west in 2020.
Apparently, this has proven to be a poor choice, as the free-to-play gacha game, set 71 years after the previous titles and sporting an entirely new cast, failed to take off.
The developers mentioned that they have strived to provide a quality service and to improve the game since its launch. Yet, after careful consideration, they determined that satisfying the userbase was not possible, so they have regretfully decided to shut the game down.
The game’s currency is impossible to purchase starting today, and a process to refund unused purchased will start at the servers’ closure on June 30.
That being said, the story of Sakura Revolution: Blooming Maidens will continue until then.
At the same time as the shut down announcement, the next story chapter has been revealed, titled “The Ruler of the Stars.” It will launch in the game in late April.
