Rocket League developer Psyonix announced it will introducing the Esports Shop to the game next week where players can buy cosmetic items to support esports teams.
The Rocket League Esports Shop offers new cosmetic items for their cars that can be bought with real money with a portion going to some teams and players participating in the Rocket League Championship Series.
According to Psyonix, the “initial pilot program” of the shop will partner with these Rocket League Championship Series teams: Cloud9, Dignitas, Evil Geniuses, G2 Esports, Ghost Gaming, mousesports, NRG Esports, Rogue, Splyce, TSM, and Team Vitality.
Each team will have two decals for Octane and Dominus cars, one player banner, and various wheels as featured items in the shop. The items can only be bought with Esports Tokens, which can be purchased for as little as 100 Tokens for $0.99 up to 2,500 Tokens for $19.99.
Psyonix said that items will start at 100 Esports Tokens, and that both the Tokens and the items sold in the shop are not tradable. Like other games with in-game cosmetic shops, the items featured will refresh every 24-48 hours depending on the item.
All teams participating in the Esports Shop will receive 30% of the revenue from items sold in the shop, while an undisclosed portion of the revenue will go towards “a Prize Pool bonus” to North American and European RLCS League Play players regardless if their teams are in the program. Psyonix also said that Oceania and South America regions will be able to participate in revenue sharing in future seasons.
The Rocket League Esports Shop will be launching for all platforms starting April 16.
