“Resident Evil 7 VR Is a Bit Too Scary for Me,” Says Capcom Europe CEO

Will you be brave enough?

Resident Evil 7 will support VR and will no doubt be even more terrifying than past games given how immersive VR technology is. Capcom Europe’s CEO Katsuhiko Ichii has revealed that the VR version of the game might be a bit much for him.

In an interview with MCV, Ichii said he might not have the nerve to play the game with a headset.

“Honestly, I find it a bit too scary,” he said. “It depends on the person. Some people might play part of it in VR, some might play it entirely in virtual reality, and some might play it entirely on the screen. It’s a choice.”

The game’s marketing director, Antoine Molant stated that, although Capcom wants the game to be scary, efforts have been made to make sure people don’t experience any real danger from the scares.

“When creating the game, the entire development team approached it as a normal non-VR game, and put in plenty of frightening jump moments. Having said that, obviously from a testing standpoint, we are making sure we are not putting people in danger for real.”

Resident Evil 7 was first announced at E3 earlier this year. It is due to be released on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on in January. A playable demo for the game is available to download now on the PlayStation Store. It has not yet been specified whether the demo will become available on other platforms.

Do you think you’ll have the nerve to play the game in VR?
