Just a few short days ahead of release, developer Rockstar Games has announced that Red Dead Redemption 2 will come with an official interactive companion app.

Rockstar posted the news via their website, stating:

“The Red Dead Redemption 2 Companion App connects directly with your PlayStation 4 or Xbox One as you play, delivering real-time interactive information to your smart device. Available for download on October 26th on both iOS and Android, you can pan and zoom the map, set waypoints or mark areas of interest with a tap on your screen, aiding your exploration and discovery throughout the expansive world of Red Dead Redemption 2.”

In addition to the game’s map, the companion app will also display protagonist Arthur Morgan’s stats in real-time, which will allow players to completely remove the HUD from their televisions without sacrificing information.

The app will also grant players access to Arthur’s in-game journal, Rockstar Social Club stat tracking, the full digital manual for Red Dead Redemption 2, an optional digital version of the official Red Dead Redemption 2 guide from Piggyback, and more that has yet to be announced. We’ll wager a guess that the app will also support Red Dead Online when the beta is released in November.

What do you think about the companion app? Is it a worthy addition to this monumental game release or will it ultimately be a gimmick that most players won’t use? Let us know in the comments!

Red Dead Redemption 2, along with its companion app, will launch this Friday, Oct. 26 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
