A study conducted by EEDAR, an NPD group company has shown that 15% of the Pokemon GO player base intend to purchase Pokemon Let’s Go.
Perhaps more interesting is that 13% of GO players who do not currently own a Nintendo Switch are intending on purchasing Let’s Go as well.
Of the currently active players of Pokemon GO, 24% are Switch owners. This leaves room for another 9% of that player base to purchase the title at a later date, in addition to the 15% who have already responded with enthusiasm to the prospects of purchasing the new Switch title.
There was some skepticism from the fanbase regarding the marketing strategy of pushing Pokemon Let’s Go further into the realm of Pokemon GO’s more casual friendly ideology. Many wondered if GO fans would actually be interested in a $60 dollar title on a console they may or may not have already purchased.
This study has at least provided some evidence that Game Freak and Nintendo’s gamble might work out. Reggie Fils-Aime’s recently claimed that pre-orders for Let’s Go on the Nintendo Switch are the best they have ever been on the console.
The launch of Pokemon Sun and Moon in 2016 was buoyed by the initial monumental success of Pokemon GO. However the integration between these titles was not a priority and the success of Sun and Moon was tied to the franchise’s enduring popularity, as well as the exposure provided by GO, not the gameplay mechanics tying them together, like we see with Let’s Go.
