Nintendo has released their latest earnings report, and there’s some impressive numbers for the Switch, which is now just over a year old. To start with the system has officially topped 17.79 million units sold worldwide, and Nintendo forecasts to sell another 20 million Switch units between April 2018 and March 2019. To give a little perspective, the Switch is sitting just ahead of where the Wii and PS4 were after their first year. The Wii sold 13.7 million while the PS4 sold 13.5 million. Of course, this also means just one year in and the Switch has totally eclipsed the lifetime sales for the Wii U.
Nintendo also detailed sales figures for the Switch’s best selling software titles, and cumulatively software on the system has sold over 68.97 million copies. There’s a few things particularly of note here, like the fact that Breath of the Wild has become the best selling Zelda game of all time, not counting remasters, and Kirby: Star Allies had the series’ best debut ever, already selling over one million units. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has also sold over 1.3 million units, an impressive feat for a niche JRPG. Here are the nine best selling games on Switch. Although Fire Emblem Warriors isn’t featured, according to Koei Tecmo’s financial results it has also sold over one million copies.
- Super Mario Odyssey – 10.41 million
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 9.22 million
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 8.48 million
- Splatoon 2 – 6.02 million
