Nintendo had a very good Thanksgiving weekend according to a new press release from the company. Two new records were set by the console, with the first being the best-selling weekend the Switch has ever had. More impressive, however, the Switch officially became the best-selling console in U.S. history for the five-day period from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday.
More than $250 million in Nintendo products were sold during the time period as well. Of course, that total accounts for sales of all Nintendo-produced software as well as systems like the 3DS, Switch, NES Classic, and SNES Classic. In total, U.S. hardware sales increase by 45 percent over the same period in 2017.
According to Adobe Analytics, the Nintendo Switch was one of the most purchased items, in general, online on Thanksgiving day.
To add to the Switch sales, Pokemon Let’s Go has sold over 1.5 million units in the U.S. between both versions, and Super Mario Party has now cleared the 1 million sales mark as well. This means combined with Japanese sales, Pokemon Let’s Go has easily cleared the two million mark already.
All of this is clearly very good news for Nintendo, who’s momentum has only been increasing over the last couple of years. This is especially true considering a recent comment from Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime, who said that Nintendo makes 60 percent of their revenue during the holiday season.
Of course, keep in mind that we still have one of the biggest releases of the year to come with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the rest of the holiday season. It’ll be interesting to see how the Switch’s sales are affected in the coming weeks.
