Microsoft’s Mixer Service to Sell Games Through Players’ Streams Soon

Microsoft’s Mixer will soon allow viewers to buy games directly from the streaming service and give some of the profit to streamers, the company announced today. Called the “Direct Purchase” feature, an option appears above the stream to buy the game or DLC that the streamer is playing.

“The entire purchase happens within Mixer, without having to leave the stream to complete the transaction,” according to Microsoft. “Once purchased, the digital content is automatically added to the buyer’s Xbox or Windows 10 game library where they can then download at their own convenience. No separate codes or tokens required.”

Mixer streamers will earn 5% of every purchase made from their channel, and includes every title available in the Microsoft Store. Streamers will be able to highlight different editions of games, such as standard or deluxe, or individual add-on content. The feature will appear for partnered streamers “in the next few days,” and be available for everyone in the coming months.

Twitch rolled out the same feature last year, also offering 5% of each direct purchase to the streamer. Unlike Microsoft, which can integrate its own digital store with its streaming service, the buy now feature only works with games from select developers and publishers.
