Microsoft has officially announced Gears of War 5 during their E3 2018 press conference, revealing a new story trailer and teasers about the scope of the game world.
Revealed by developer The Coalition, the new footage was preceded by a boast from the developer that the game is the largest in the series to date. Following the events of the fourth game, a terrible accident befalls Kade and the crew from Gears of War 4. Haunted by premonitions, she sets off to right the wrongs of what has happened by any means necessary. The trailer then cuts to bits of the game’s combat, ranging from bone crunching melee attacks to high speed shoot outs.
The trailer closed with a reveal that Gears of War 5 is currently slated for release in 2019. The full teaser can be viewed down below.
The game is the latest entry in the franchise since Gears of War 4, which released Oct. 11, 2016 and was met with positive reception from fans and critics alike. The series has also been passed off to The Coalition for development, with original creators such as Cliff Bleszinski pursuing other ventures. They’re still eager to see where the series goes though, with Bleszinski saying the announcement of a new entry would be great.
The announcement isn’t the only big news to come for Microsoft from this year’s E3. For more on all of the show’s big announcements, stay tuned to the site for the latest updates.
