Koei Tecmo Plans to Expand Global Business with Partnerships and IP; Announces Positive Results

Today Koei Tecmo announced its financial results for the third quarter of the fiscal year 2018, ended on Dec. 31, 2018.

All results were in the black, showing improvement of both net sales and income year-on-year.

Not surprisingly the Entertainment segment of the business, which includes games, took the lion share in both categories, as you can see in the handy table below.

According to the press release PS4, Switch, and mobile games led the market, and eSports have been very relevant across 2018.

Within its medium-term three-year management plan Koei Tecmo plans to continue “creating and deploy global IP,” leading to a “leap ahead” of its global business.

Warriors Orochi 4 passed 500,000 copies sold, and earned worldwide popularity, while Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 was announced for Switch, published by Nintendo.

The game is in development under the Team Ninja brand and is planned for a release in 2019. According to Koei Tecmo, the publisher will keep “engaging in large-scale collaborations and expanding the global business through leading partnerships.”

Strong sales of console games and increasing operating income of smartphone games are indicated as factors in the quarter’s positive results.

Incidentally, we learn that NiOh Complete Edition keeps selling “steadily,” while Dissidia Final Fantasy Opera Omnia performed well, especially outside of Japan.

Last, but not least, the mobile game Atelier Online passed 2.5 million downloads.
