Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is one of 2017’s best games. One of its biggest flaws, though, is it isn’t currently available for the Xbox One, but that will soon change.
According to Gematsu, the Taiwan Game Software Rating Information board and Australian Classification board accidentally leaked new ratings for the game. Both sites rate Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice for the Xbox One, therefore odds are good we can expect an official announcement very soon.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was developed and published by Ninja Theory, the studio behind Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and DmC: Devil May Cry. The game is described as an “independent AAA game” that delivers the gameplay and production value of a AAA game and the creative freedom and price point of an indie game. While the plot revolves around the titular Senua’s quest to rescue her dead lover’s soul from the Norse underworld and the goddess Hela, the game states in no uncertain terms that Senua has psychosis. Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice leaves players wondering just how much of what they experience is actual paranormal activity and how much is an in-game hallucination.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was nominated for numerous awards at the Global Game Awards 2017 and The Game Awards 2017, including best audio design, best performance, best impact, and best indie game. Many critics praised the game’s depiction of psychosis, which was developed in conjunction with neuroscientists and psychosis experts such as Professor Paul Fletcher from the University of Cambridge and Professor Charles Fernyhough of Durham University.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was originally released for the PlayStation 4 and PC. The upcoming Xbox One port will allow gamers who don’t own a PS4 or a powerful gaming PC to finally play the game. However, Ninja Theory has yet to make an official announcement, so we do not know when the Xbox One version will release.
