Nihon Falcom’s president, Toshihiro Kondo, is apparently considering turning Tokyo Xanadu into one of the company’s franchises, according to Falcom’s 2nd-quarter financial results briefing. The game originally released on PlayStation Vita in 2015 with an enhanced PS4 port coming a year later, however, fans in the west would have to wait until 2017 for both versions. Tokyo Xanadu was a brand new IP for Falcom, one that released during a time where the trend in the industry was creating sequels for successful titles. According to Kondo the game was received quite well, although firm sales figures weren’t given. Because of this, he’s considering turning Tokyo Xanadu into a franchise and one of Falcom’s mainstay titles, alongside the likes of Ys and The Legend of Heroes.
Tokyo Xanadu is currently available for PS Vita, and Tokyo Xanadu EX+ for PS4. We gave the Vita version of the game a 3/5, saying that it had fun combat and social systems but its story fell a little short, despite a likable cast of characters.
