In an interview on Famitsu, President Souhei Niikawa mentions that he cannot provide details yet, but he’s going to do his best in developing a simulation RPG for consoles this year.

Incidentally, “simulation RPG” is the Japanese way to describe what in the west call a strategy JRPG.

Niikawa-san also mentions that he’s interested in next-gen platforms like PS5, and he’d like to create a game for it as early as possible.

Lastly, he explains that over the last few years, the developer has been focusing a lot on creating completely new games. As a next step, they’d like to focus on sequels that match the requests they receive from gamers.

It’s worth mentioning that Niikawa-san doesn’t specifically mention Disgaea, but the mentions of simulation RPGs and sequels could certainly give hope to fans of the series. Of course, this is just my speculation, so take it with a grain of salt.

Currently, Nippon Ichi Software is working on void tRrLM(); //Void Terarium by the same team behind Hotaru no Nikki and on the “Cross-Dressing Game for All Ages” Bokuhime Project.

Proud weeb hailing from sunny (not as much as people think) Italy and long-standing gamer since the age of Mattel Intellivision and Sinclair ZX Spectrum. Definitely a multi-platform gamer, he still holds the old dear PC nearest to his heart, while not disregarding any console on the market. RPGs (of any nationality), MMORPGs, and visual novels are his daily bread, but he enjoys almost every other genre, prominently racing simulators, action and sandbox games. He is also one of the few surviving fans on Earth of the flight simulator genre.
