Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak Academy may be approaching its conclusion, but that doesn’t mean you’ve made it out of the war between hope and despair just yet. In the wake of an updated trailer for New Danganronpa V3: Minna no Koroshiai Shingakki at Tokyo Game Show, the official site for the title has been updated with new character art, box art, and screenshots.
New Danganronpa V3 is reportedly hitting the hard reset button and will not have anything in common with past entries, which means anyone who hasn’t been following the exploits of Hope’s Peak High School can easily begin with the new Gifted Inmates Academy, and its new protagonist Kaede Akamatsu. In the box art for the game, which will be releasing in 2017 for the PS4 and PS Vita, we can see the new and colorful cast encompassed within a chain with the series’ mascot Monokuma and the “Children of Monokuma” on the outside.
We’ve also been gifted with art of the entire cast, which allows us to see who we’ll be growing attached to just in time for the game to kill them off. If either of the last two main entries of the series are any indication, the cast will provide much of the lasting magic that impacts fans during their initial playthrough. According to translations found on NeoGAF (via Gematsu), the new protagonist is a reliable character and “naturally takes charge and leads others, and possesses both strong determination and the ability to take action.”
Where the “Children of Monokuma” are concerned, the only one that is spotlit is the leader, named Monotarou, “who often tends to get sidetracked. On the other hand, he can also have a child-like clumsiness about him,” and the group is also confirmed to be in control of the Academy and the killing game taking place there.
