Celebrate Goku Day with Dragon Ball FighterZ’s Latest Trailer

This article is over 5 years old and may contain outdated information

Did you know that today is Goku Day? Apparently, the numbers that represent today’s date, 05/09, are pronounced “go” and “kyu” in Japanese. Say those numbers real fast, and they sound like Goku. You learn something new every day.

To commemorate Goku Day, Bandai Namco released a new trailer for Dragon Ball FighterZ that’s as much a celebration of the latest DLC character, Goku circa Dragon Ball GT, as it is a celebration of Goku himself.

The trailer, which plays to the tune of the Japanese version of Dragon Ball GT’s opening, is quite the tearjerker as it chronicles all of Goku’s big fights throughout the Dragon Ball franchise. Technically, the video starts with his fight against Vegeta instead of someone earlier, but all the series’ iconic antagonists are in the trailer. Frieza, Cell, Majin Buu, Beerus, Hit, Jiren; they’re all there and getting their collective butts handed to them. Well, everyone except Beerus, but that’s understandable since he’s the God of Destruction.

The video closes out with GT Goku, who is the fourth playable Goku in the game not counting Goku Black, beating the ever living daylights out of Vegeta yet again. And the trailer also reminds us to “Remember the fights of Goku.” I will, Bandai Namco, I will.

The video is quite the proper way to celebrate probably the most iconic character in anime, as well as remind gamers that the Dragon Ball FighterZ team isn’t done producing new characters for the game. After all, the developers still have one more unannounced DLC fighter left in store for the FighterZ Pass 2, as well as Gogeta and the Dragon Ball Super (and canon) version of Broly. Fingers crossed for Hercule/Mr. Satan making it into the final spot.

GT Goku is now available for the PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Switch version of Dragon Ball FighterZ. Have fun, and a super (Saiyan) Goku Day to all.
