With the recently released Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga resonating well with both critics and audiences alike, and with news that legendary developer Amy Hennig is officially on board to help Lucasfilm Games deliver an interactive experience set in that galaxy far, far away; Star Wars as a video game brand is in a pretty strong position right now. However, that hasn’t always been the case. Specifically, a much-anticipated video game project, titled Star Wars 1313, was in development for many years before Disney finally pumped the brakes on it and broke the hearts of an entire fanbase.
It was as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror. If you’re here, you’re probably wondering what Star Wars 1313 is and why it was cancelled. Let’s get into it, shall we?
What Is Star Wars 1313?
Originally announced at E3 back in 2012, Star Wars 1313 was poised to be a cinematic, third-person action-adventure title that placed you in the boots of the infamous bounty hunter, Boba Fett. The game was going to be set on Coruscant and would’ve seen you navigating Level 1313 of a mysterious subterranean megalopolis.
Not only did we get to see an official trailer back in the day, but we also managed to get our own E3 Preview of the game as well.
Unfortunately, however, Star Wars 1313 was officially cancelled in 2013, to many fans’ dismay.
Why Was Star Wars 1313 Cancelled?
Even though Star Wars 1313 had been in development since 2009, a major sea change happened that would go on to have a profound impact on the game’s trajectory: The Walt Disney Company acquired Lucasfilm.
That’s right, when Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the company ceased internal development on Star Wars 1313 and laid off its staff. In essence, the Mouse House pivoted from developing its own Star Wars games in-house to a safer, more risk averse way of developing them: by licensing them out to third-party publishers. As a result, Star Wars 1313 was canned and ultimately put on ice.
So, there you have it. We hope this helped clue you in on what Star Wars 1313 is and why it was cancelled. For more, feel free to peruse the relevant links down below. And as always, keep it locked at Twinfinite for more Star Wars-related content.
