Destiny: The Taken King- How To Unlock the Sunbreaker Subclass

Recommended Videos

Are you a dedicated year one Titan, firing up Destiny: The Taken King for the first time wondering how to unlock Sunbreaker, Titan’s new subclass? We got you covered. First things first though, you’re going to want to complete The Taken King’s first mission, The Coming War. After that, return to the tower and the Titan guardian mentor, Commander Zavala, will have a quest for you.

Head back to orbit and a new mission on Venus, A March of Fire, will appear. A March of Fire will take you through the same path that the Year One strike The Nexus did. Head through the Ishtar Commons taking out the Vex that get in your way. Eventually you’ll come across a large Vex Hydra Ultra appropriately named Ultra Hydra. If you’re at 25 he might be difficult but 34s should have no problem taking the Ultra Hydra out pretty quickly. It will spawn Vex as you fight but nothing that’s too overwhelming.

Once you defeat the Ultra Hydra, inspect the small Vex spire to learn that the Sunbreakers are on Mercury. The mission will complete and you’ll automatically be sent to The Burning Shrine for the next phase of the mission.

The Sunbreakers’ Challenge

After a brief loading screen you’ll be onto part 2 of unlocking the Sunbreaker subclass. You’ll learn that the Sunbreakers are in cahoots with Osiris, and because of this, were never embraced by Commander Zavala. However realizing the Sunbreakers’ potential in aiding against the fight against Oryx in The Taken King, Zavala encourages you to carry on with the mission.

You’ll land at the popular Crucible map, The Burning Shrine, and be greeted via your Ghost by Ourus, the champion Sunbreaker. Before you are given the Hammer of Sol, you must first light the forge that will grant you that power. It’s simple enough, just walk forward over to the mysterious beam and retune it so that it lights the forge back where you spawned. There will be a couple of Vex in your way, just take them out.

The forge will activate, a cutscene will trigger and you’ll be granted the Sunbreaker class, congratulations! However, you’re not done. It’s time to put your new power to the test. You’ll be able to use Hammer of Sol, the Sunbreakers super ability. When activated, you channel your inner Thor, except you’ll be throwing hammers of fire instead. You can usually get between 4-5 hammers out before running out of super. Each hammer strike does devastating AOE damage that can easily rip through packs of enemies.

Hordes of Vex will spawn and you’l need to take them out with your new ability. Luckily, your super will regenerate a few seconds again after you use it, so go crazy. You’ll do a lap around the map and destroy any Vex that gets in your way with your super. Take out all the Vex to complete this part of the quest.

After you’re done on Mercury, head back to the Tower and speak to Commander Zavala. He will complete the quest for you and give you a level 40 legendary Titan mark, Sunbreaker’s Mark. You’ll have abilities unlocked up through your melee attack which includes your super, jump and grenade.

Enjoy your new subclass in Destiny: The Taken King’s new missions and make sure to start leveling the Sunbreaker up with bounties and killing enemies. Safe travels, Sunbreakers.
