How to Get the True Ending in Resident Evil 2 Remake

The Resident Evil 2 remake is finally here, and players will get to choose between Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield when starting their first playthrough. However, if you felt like the endings to their stories seemed a little lackluster, we have some good news for you. Here’s how to get the true ending in Resident Evil 2 remake.

In order to get the true ending, you need to beat the game at least once. When you first boot up the game, you can choose to play as either Leon or Claire. Pick whoever you’d like, then play that scenario through to the end.

Upon completion of that scenario, the game will inform you that you’ve unlocked New Game 2nd Run, which is pretty similar to the A and B scenarios from the original release. Completing the game with Leon will unlock New Game 2nd Run for Claire, and vice versa.

Now, all you have to do is play through New Game 2nd Run with the character that you didn’t pick, and you’ll automatically get Resident Evil 2’s true ending at the very end of the scenario. That’s all there is to it.

A quick summary of those steps to get the true ending in Resident Evil 2:

  • Beat the game with either character on your first playthrough.
  • Beat the game with the other character you didn’t choose in a ‘2nd Run Playthrough.’

Fair warning, though; while the 2nd Run idea does sound similar to the A and B scenarios, it’s not quite as fleshed out as the original game. Aside from the opening, the rest of the story content is pretty much exactly the same as that character’s 1st run playthrough.

As such, you wouldn’t really be missing anything by jumping straight to Claire’s 2nd Run and skipping her first run, for instance.

The 2nd Run mode does feature some cool gameplay changes, however, in terms of shuffled item placements and puzzle solutions, so there’s enough here to keep you on the edge of your seat.

And that’s all you need to know about how to get the true ending in Resident Evil 2. Be sure to check our Resident Evil 2 guide wiki for more tips and information on the game.

TLDR;
