If things have gone wrong for you during a mission, chances are you have a Rainbow Six Extraction MIA Operator. This happens when an operator dies during a mission. If you want to get the XP they’ve earned and use them again, you’ll need to go ahead and rescue the MIA Operator, and in this guide, we’ll talk you through everything you need to know about this process.
What Are MIA Operators in Rainbow Six Extraction?
An MIA Operator is one that has died during a mission and didn’t manage to exfil. They’ve been claimed by the parasite and, until you rescue them, you won’t be able to use them again.
If you fail your rescue mission, the Operator will be usable again from your roster, but will have significantly reduced health and will not have all of the XP they’d earned during the mission they were killed.
How to Rescue MIA Operators in Rainbow Six Extraction
- After an Operator has died, go to the ‘Play’ tab and select the location that they died in.
A red skull icon will be next to the options you need to select to start the rescue mission.
- Once you’re in the mission, one of the sub-zone objectives will be to rescue an MIA Operator.
Proceed through the mission until you reach this sub-zone.
- When you’re in the sub-zone with your MIA Operator, begin searching the entire area and look out for a Archaean tree.
The tree also lets out a telltale pinging noise which will grow louder as you get closer.
- Walk over to the tree and press and hold X on Xbox (Square on PlayStation) to start rescuing the MIA Operator.
You’ll notice that the tree has a number of vine-like strands coming from it, anchoring it to various points around the room. Make a note of these locations.
- Shoot the center of the anchor points attached to the tree around the room. You’ll also need to shoot the cells that surge down the vines towards the tree as and when they appear.
Doing this will prevent the Archaean tree from replenishing its energy, meaning you can pull your MIA Operator from the tree faster.
- When you’ve pulled the yellow diamond icon towards the yellow triangle when interacting with the tree, you’ll have freed the MIA Operator.
The arrows pointing in a certain direction indicates who’s winning the tug-of-war between you and the tree. The more of the anchor points and cells you destroy, the weaker the tree gets and the more arrows you’ll get going in your direction, allowing you to pull the Operator out faster.
- Make your way to the helicopter icon on your HUD to reach an Exfil point.
Place the MIA Operator in the long tube next to the screen here by pressing and holding X/ Square when stood in front of it.
What You Get for Rescuing an MIA Operator
Once you’ve successfully rescued an operator, you’ll be given the XP they’d earned from the mission until they died, minus a small chunk for having died.
The rescued Operator will also be available to use in your next mission, though keep in mind they may be injured and need healing. This is done by completing missions with other Operators and performing well. The more XP you earn in a mission, the more HP your injured Operators will be healed by.
