Phantasy Star Online 2 AKA PSO2 after years and years of pleading will finally be making its way stateside in 2020. Sure you could, in the past, play the Japanese version of the game with English language options, but it will be much more easily accessible once it eventually releases officially. If you’re here, you’re probably wondering if PSO2 is coming to Switch. This is everything we know, Nintendo fans.
Phantasy Star 2 (PSO2) on Nintendo Switch
PSO2 was revealed under very surprising circumstances back at E3 2019. It was originally revealed to be coming to Xbox One and PC, and there was originally no mention of the Nintendo Switch nor PS4.
Phantasy Star Online 2 is a pretty old game, there have been handheld versions of online PSO games in the past, a cloud version of the game does already exist in Japan and Sega has a close relationship with Nintendo; so it would be odd if the Switch wasn’t in the cards at all for North America where the hybrid console is incredibly popular.
Fortunately though, despite the lack of clarity early on there have been some positive developments towards a Switch version of PSO2.
Head of Xbox Phil Spencer recently confirmed that eventually, PSO2 would release on more (read: all) platforms other than what was originally announced back at E3 2019. Meaning eventually PSO2 will release on the Nintendo Switch.
There will be a period of exclusivity, we don’t know how long that will be, and we don’t know if the eventual Switch version of Phantasy Star Online 2 will also be a cloud game. That said, until something changes to make us think otherwise you can safely assume that at one point in the future, you’ll be able to download PSO2 to your Switch in North America.
