Pokemon Sun & Moon: Where to Find Pichu and How to Evolve

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Pokemon Sun and Moon brings back a lot of classic pocket monsters that fans of the series know and love. One such Pokemon is the pre-evolution of Pikachu, Pichu.

You’ll find this lovable rodent in Route 1 in Melemele Island. This is the first island you will come across, so you have a chance at an electric type very early on. You might run into a ton of other low-leveled Pokemon (like Pikipeks and Yungooses), but you definitely also have a chance at catching a Pichu of your own.

Once you do manage to catch one, you level it up in a bit of a different way than is typical. Make sure that your friendship with Pichu is at the most it can be. To do this, you need to have it in your party, use it in battle, take care of it with the Refresh, feed it beans, give it a Soothe Bell to hold, and give it food you purchase in the towns.

When you’re both best friends forever, all you need to do is level it up in battle and you will have a brand new Pikachu once you do!

A Bit More on Pichu

The adorable mouse, Pichu, has been around since Generation II with Gold and Silver as Pikachu’s prior evolution. Before then, the famous electric rodent was known to have been the first of only two evolutions in the line. However, the cute little baby form of Pichu has proven trainers everywhere wrong with its introduction. It’s evolution is particularly unique for the series, too, as you can only evolve it once your friendship level is high enough. Once you’re both as close as you can be and you level it up, you will have your very own Pikachu. (Which is more like a second child now, huh?) Its abilities can include Static (which gives a 30% chance of a physical attack to do damage and paralyze) and Lightning Rod (forces lightning moves to strike them), and it’s of course of the Electric type.
