How to Evolve Meltan in Pokemon Let’s Go

Pokemon Let’s Go has finally arrived on the Nintendo Switch and sees players exploring the region of Kanto once more. With a fairly strong link between these new Switch titles and the mobile title of 2016, Pokemon Go, you can expect some kind of crossover. The method to evolve Meltan in Pokemon Let’s Go is a prime example, so here’s what you need to know.

First things first, it’s important to note that Meltan will only evolve into Melmetal in Pokemon Go. Just as is the case with other Pokemon you catch in the mobile game, you’ll need to acquire Candies and use them all in order to evolve it. Specifically, for Meltan, you’ll need 400 Candies.

These can be earned by simply catching Meltan in Pokemon Go over and over again, sending it to Professor Willow, or having Meltan be your Buddy Pokemon. This can take a little while, however, but fear not. You can earn these candies even quicker if you transfer Meltan over into Let’s Go Pikachu or Eevee.

By transferring Meltan over, you can then earn even more candies by trading with friends, or using any Rare Candies you find along the way. This still takes a ton of time to get the massive 400 Meltan Candy you need, so you’re best using the Mystery Box method to the best of your abilities instead.

Upon transferring any ‘mon over to Pokemon Let’s Go from Pokemon Go, you’ll be rewarded with a Mystery Box. By using the Mystery Box in Pokemon Go, you’ll trigger a bunch of Meltan to disperse around the world. You then have 30 minutes to go and catch as many of them (or as few) as you want.

If you’re looking to evolve it into Melmetal, then, of course, you’ll want to catch as many Meltan as possible during this time. Once the 30 minutes are over, you’ll then need to wait an entire week before you can use the Mystery Box in Go again.

We’ve broken down a list of the best ways to get Meltan candy in Go and Let’s Go.

  • Use the Mystery Box every week to catch as many Meltan as possible and transfer them to Professor Willow.
  • Trade with friends in Pokemon Let’s Go.
  • Make Meltan your buddy in Go.
  • Use Rare Candies you find in Let’s Go.

Once you’ve finally acquired all 400 candy that you need, you’ll want to make sure you’ve got it back in Pokemon Go. From there, you’re going to evolve it just as you have any other ‘mon, which we’ve broken down for you again below.

  • With 400 candy in-hand, tap the Poke Ball at the bottom of the screen.
  • Tap Pokemon on the left side.
  • Select Meltan from your list of ‘mon.
  • Tap the Evolve button underneath Power Up.

Once you’ve evolved it into Melmetal, you’re then free to transfer this hulking metal beast back into Let’s Go the same way you’ve transferred other ‘mon.

That’s pretty much all you need to know in order to evolve Meltan into Melmetal in Pokemon Let’s Go. For more tips, tricks, and guides for your adventure through Kanto, be sure to check out our ever-expanding Pokemon Let’s Go guide wiki.
