Phasmophobia: How To Use the IR Flashlight

This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Phasmophobia is an incredible game, especially given the fact a single developer made it. However, the training that was put into the game does not always give the best tips. Given that, here is a quick tutorial on the ins and outs of how to use the IR flashlight in Phasmophobia.

How To Use the IR Flashlight in Phasmophobia

The first and most important part of using the IR flashlight in Phasmophobia is equipping the IR flashlight. It spawns in the far right of the middle-right shelf. If you have trouble finding it, please use the image below.

Once you have Phasmophobia’s IR flashlight in hand, it is time to enter the house and start making the ghost mad. The two easiest ways to do that are to turn on lights and call out its name. I would highly recommend using the spirit box if you are going to call out its name, as this is an easy way to cross off two evidence types.

Now that the ghost is mad, begin roaming around the house, looking for the ghost’s room. The point of the IR Flashlight is to find fingerprints. You can find these on doors, windows, and light switches.

There is not a guarantee that it will leave fingerprints. If you notice a light flicker and no fingerprints on the switch, it is oftentimes a sign that fingerprints are not an evidence type for that location; however, this is not 100% accurate.

Whether it is a feature or a glitch, there are cases of a ghost leaving fingerprints in some places while not leaving them in locations it has interacted.

It is important to note that even though the ghost will interact with the fuse box, it will never leave fingerprints. As you can see in the image below, it is also possible that during the hunting phase, a handprint will be left on the closet door you were hiding in.

Make sure to always check with the IR flashlight towards the end of a hunt, as it can be one of the most inconsistent types of evidence to find.

And that is just about everything you need to know about the IR flashlight in Phasmophobia. If you feel well informed, feel free to search Twinfinite for more guides and information on the game.
